New Delhi, December 16: Dr Firas Sabah Salih who recently assumed charge as the Cultural Attaché, Embassy of Iraq, today, called on the Registrar, Jamia Millia Islamia, Prof Md Mahtab Alam Rizvi with the aim of strengthening cooperation and educational exchange between his country and JMI.Dr Salih was accompanied by Dr Ammar Abdulhamed Khader, the outgoing Cultural Attaché of Iraq. Foreign Students’ Advisor JMI, Prof Saima Saeed greeted the delegation and informed them that JMI was a ‘home away from home’ for a large number of students from Iraq.Prof Md Mahtab Alam Rizvi extending his greetings to the Embassy of Iraq expressed the willingness on the part of JMI to foster greater educational and cultural cooperation so as to encourage more students from Iraq to pursue higher studies at JMI. He added that in addition to providing an optimal academic environment and hostel facilities, the university also offers a short-term, English for Academic Purposes Course (EAP) in order to develop writing and analytical skills for students who come from non-English speaking countries. Prof Md Mahtab Alam Rizvi said, this would go a long way to make their academic journey smooth and to acquire global skills.JMI is a preferred destination of study for students from Iraq who are currently pursuing several courses in the university, including, PhD programs in Engineering, Computer sciences and Life Sciences and post graduation program in the Faculties of Architecture, Life Sciences and other Sciences.
