Optimus Achievers wins H.H. Maharaja of Jodhpur Cup, defeating Navy Polo Central Academy by two goals in an exciting match. Maharaja Umed Singh Ji Airport Road, Pabupura, the final of the H.H. Maharaja of Jodhpur Cup (8 Goal) tournament was played on Sunday,December 28, at 2:30 PM between Optimus Achievers and Navy Polo Central Academy teams. Optimus Achievers won the match by scoring six goals against four goals by Navy Polo Central Academy, securing the cup with a two-goal difference. Since both teams had the same handicap of eight goals each, the polo enthusiasts present at the ground witnessed an exciting match. At 3:30 PM, in the Ladies Polo exhibition match, Mehrangarh Warriors defeated Mandore Knights by a margin of one and a half goals, scoring four and a half goals against three. During the match, Maharaja Gaj Singh Ji, the patron of Jodhpur Polo, and Arun DeSilva of Frederic Constant were present at the ground. They presented the cups and trophies to the winning team players after the match. Maharaja Gaj Singh Ji honored Vikram Rathore’s ‘Polo Pony’ Mirchi with the Best Pony award, presenting her with a saddle. The Mehrangarh Band and the Nine Played Army Pipe One Madras Infantry Band, present at the ground, entertained the spectators with melodious tunes.
At the start of the match, Frederic Constant’s official timekeeper, Jayanti Verma, started the game by throwing the ball.Indrajeet Singh Nathawat, Honorary Secretary of the Jodhpur Polo and Equestrian Institute, Jodhpur, said that in the final, playing for the Optimus Achievers team, the team’s four-handicap player Syed Shamsher Ali scored one goal each in the second and third chukkers, two-handicap player Dhruvpal Godara scored one goal each in the third and fourth chukkers, and Aryaman Singh scored one goal in the second chukker, and Argentina’s four-handicap player Daniel Otamendi scored one goal in the third chukker. In the match, playing for the Navy Polo Central Academy team, Argentina’s four-handicap player Manuel Prado scored one goal in the second chukker and two goals in the fourth chukker.
Teammate Savir Mehraj Godara scored one goal in the fourth chukker. No goals were scored by either team in the first chukker.Secretary Nathawat said that in the Ladies Polo match played at 3:30 pm, playing for the Mandore Knights team, Juana Deramo was the only player who scored all three goals. Juana scored one goal each in the first, third, and fourth chukkers. In the match, playing with a starting lead of one and a half goals, London’s lady player Cicely Hingham of the Mehrangarh Warriors team scored one goal each in the third and fourth chukkers, and teammate Shivangi Singh scored one goal in the third chukker. This team did not score any goals in the first and second chukkers,
but with the initial lead of one and a half goals, this team registered a victory.
