Bukhara, Uzbekistan-Mrs. Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairperson of India’s National Commission for Women, participated in and expressed great pleasure in actively contributing to the Second Asian Women’s Forum, held in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, on May 14–15, 2026. The forum was organized under the theme “Investment in Women: Foundation of Sustainable Growth.” The forum witnessed the participation of several distinguished personalities, including Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan; Dr. Diene Keita, Executive Director of UNFPA; and Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva. In addition to these figures, representatives from the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)—along with delegates from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey, China,
Egypt, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and numerous other nations—also took part in the event. During formal and informal interactions with global stakeholders, Mrs. Vijaya Rahatkar emphasized that women’s participation is not merely a regional issue but
a democratic imperative—one that is absolutely essential for strengthening institutions, improving policy-making, and ensuring inclusive and sustainable development.The forum concluded with a shared commitment among the participating nations.
This commitment aimed to promote gender equality, strengthen social security frameworks, enhance women’s digital security,
and foster women-led sustainable development across the entire region.
